My wife and I recently moved into our new home. Being a young couple we wanted to do our part in helping the environment, we also wanted a home that would fit that lifestyle. When we were looking to build we came across Reid’s Heritage New Energy Star Homes. With further research we discovered that this home was not only affordable, but would save us money in the long run.

We were amazed to find out that this included energy saving bulbs, low flow taps/shower heads, high end insulation, and the list goes on. Then came the fun part of appliance shopping. We looked at many different places, and wanted to get appliances that would again save energy. We are happy to say that all of the appliances in our home have the energy star symbol. In recent conversations with our friends who like us have monthly bills, we’ve noticed the savings already, and we’ve only been there 6 months.

Now that spring is fast approaching, we are looking at the option of going down to one car. We both work in town, and I’ve been considering riding my bike, or purchasing a Moped. This would not only save gas, but it’s also good exercise.

My wife and I use only the cloth bags for grocery shopping, or cardboard boxes, which we can recycle. We are lucky to have 1 clear waste bag every other week!

This is just the beginning, and it’s a great lifestyle to practice now, so that one day our kids can do the same.

Yes I know, It’s about Walmart, and yes it’s from the Financial Post, but the actions Walmart are taking should be of great benefit to the environment.
