SOIL links Canadian farmers willing to take on and train apprentices with folks wanting to work and learn on an organic farm using sustainable practices. There is a wide scope of the different kinds of Canadian farms available to our apprentices. Apprenticeships are available to anyone over 18 years old who is healthy, self motivated and eager to learn. A time commitment of eight weeks is expected and a full growing season is preferred. Most apprenticeships involve labor in exchange for room, board and the opportunity to learn, although some farms provide a wage or small allowance.

The EverPURE Biodiesel Co-op is a newly formed co-op serving Erin, Orangeville, and surrounding areas. The biodiesel co-op will connect with local farmers, restaurants and drivers to create a closed loop production/distribution system. In the first stages, biodiesel will be imported from a local producer (who manufactures biodiesel from waste oils only) and distributed to our members. Once the co-op is established, production will shift to our own facilities, producing biodiesel from waste oils recovered from local restaurants. It is our hope that local farmers will grow the oilseed, the refined oil will supply local restaurants, and the oil will be recovered to process into biodiesel. Schepers Property Services is very excited to add a new service for our customers. Starting Mid April a lawn care service will be on the road in the city core that uses Reel Mowers and bicycles with trailers. Actually, to be honest, it is neither new, as the business has historically used the trailers for a period of two years in 1982 nor is it enviromentally motivated. It just makes sense and is fun.

Visit our lame web site (soon to be done right) and get a feel for what we do. Schepers Property loves garden renovations, seasonal lawn care and most property repair needs. We also love recycling and have a really cool portfolio of what was done last year with all the concrete walks torn up on Gordon St. Living retaining walls, sensible garden edging and unique planters were just a few creations.

    Ruth Bowes said,

Many people say, what does real estate have to do with going green. I say – lots. First off, I am conscious of my footprint on the earth – so I make choices everyday – do I stay put and work from home today – do I plan a whole bunch of showings with clients and map it out so no wasted mileage. Do we drive together? Take 2 cars? Do I need to print this information, do I need to send printed promotional pieces? I have a listing presentation in PowerPoint and don’t print it off – many clients have been impressed with the consciousness I bring to my business (see http://www.ruthbowes.com Going Green Link).

Not only that, most of us live in a house, either we rent or own. It is where we spend most of our time and use a lot of energy. I sell houses. Doesn’t it make sense that I take time with my buyers and sellers to promote reducing our eco foot print.

To renovate or just tidy up a bit. Depending on the work that needs to be done, I say leave it, no point in putting in a new kitchen when someone else is going to replace it.

As the market progresses I hope to promote homes that have green features, and save energy.

So, if you like what you hear, please contact me direct – whether you are buing or selling.

A new local business is hitting the streets of Guelph. We are two local students interested in both eating locally for global change and emission-free transportation. In combining both ideas, we have created an eco-friendly bicycle delivery service. LOCAL FOOD PEDDLERS brings farm-fresh fruits and vegetables right to people’s homes with farm-to-door delivery by bicycle. Now people who are unable to make it to markets or farms – families with busy schedules, urban professionals with late hours, or individuals without accessibility – can still support the 100-mile diet without compromising their urban lifestyles. We offer the market throughout the week. Eco-friendly. Emission-free. Local, local, local. Weekly, LOCAL FOOD PEDDLERS assembles and delivers fruit & vegetable parcels from local farms. And if you already have an existing CSA (community shared agriculture) but can’t make the weekly pick-ups, we will for you! Or if you need your favorite natural health products from local shops, just call them right away to receive delivery from us just the next day! Finally, our community has a service that complements people’s bio-conscious food choices. A service that is mindful in restoring the connection between the urban and farm environments that coexist in Guelph. So today in a globalizing world, you can live in the urban scene….AND still be green.

Backpeddling is a local independent bicycle store that has been serving the community since 2000. We have the largest selection of new and used bicycles, parts and accessories in the area. Our knowledgeable, friendly staff and fully stocked service department makes us your one stop bicycle shop.
Here at Backpeddling we re”cycle” hundreds of bicycles each year and help prevent them from ending up in landfills. We take unwanted bikes/trade-in and make them into safe rideable bikes again and re”cycle” them back into the community.

Come check out our shop and take a stroll through memory lane with bikes and parts dating back to 1850! We look forward to servicing your bicycle needs.

Here at E-Ride, our e-bikes are made by Greenwit Technologies. Greenwit Techologies is a Canadian company based out of Vancouver, B.C.
With pollution and gas prices at an all time high an alternative mode of transport is necessary. Not only to take burden off our air but also off our bank accounts.
There are a lot of electric bikes on the market these days but wouldn’t you rather ride in style with the high end allure of Motorino?! Just one of the may reasons as to why Motorino is top shelf, is the new CCT controller. Which allows you to switch from high speed driving gear to high torque gear; for superior hill climbing capability.
Have you ever wanted to get to your destination with the breeze on you face, seeing the sites you miss in a vehicle, and hearing no noise pollution? We think we have the answer for you!
E-Ride is located at 75 Wyndham St. S., just before York Rd. We believe that there should be a reliable, stylist and comfortable form of transportation that is non-dependant on crude oil.

One Green Step Forward is a simplistic logo which is the essence of Footprints Eco Store. We believe when people give a little extra effort, their reward is a greater sense of being.

Our little store, in downtown Guelph, Ontario, is proud to offer environmentally friendly products from around the world as well as many local products.

At Footprints we carefully screen for fair trade, fair labour & human rights practices. You can shop in our store with confidence, knowing that we have looked into each product we offer and have carried out the leg work for you.

We are proud to have a growing clientele that enjoy shopping for low impact, sustainable goods. By giving people a one-stop shopping experience, from dish soap to bamboo towels, we have made it “easy to be green”.

Footprints opened its doors on June 1st, 2008. It took 3 months to finish the renovations. We rebuilt the store’s ceiling and walls using as much recycled materials as possible. Most of the shelves are also built using sustainable materials. By removing the wasteful halogen lighting, we dropped our hydro electric bill substantially; we now run fewer lights and of course use energy efficient bulbs. We are Bull Frog Powered (100% green electricity retailer in Ontario that sources electricity from wind and low-impact water power producers).

Footprints Eco Store is locally owned and operated. We would like to thank all those who have supported our store and have helped make a difference in our community.

Rob's Eco Care Property Maintenance said,

Rob’s Eco Care Property Maintenance provides high quality service at competitive rates while being gentle to the earth. Rob’s Eco Care is about 80% carbon neutral so far with the goal of being 100% carbon neutral.

    The services I provide include:

    - Lawn Cutting and Trimming, both Residential and Commercial
    - Small Landscaping Projects
    - Organic and Natural Fertilizers
    - Yard Clean-ups
    - Flower Bed Maintenance
    - Snow Removal

How I am achieving carbon neutrality is through the use of renewable fuels, specifically waste vegetable oil and biodiesel. I have converted both my truck and my riding lawnmower to run on waste vegetable oil, and I start them and shut them off on biodiesel. I also use a rechargeable lawn mower and trimmer (and I have a gas one for larger properties – cordless technology is not up to commercial standards yet!). I also use manual labour – push reel mower for smaller lots, a broom and rake instead of a leaf blower and shovels instead of a snow blower for sidewalks.

Call Rob for you property maintenance needs at 519-662-3933 or email RobsEcoCare@gmail.com. Serving KW to Stratford and all points between.
