So the “Friends of the Hanlon” or whatever they’re called, are now out in the open as the ones who allegedly intimidated and threatened someone at the home of Drexler Construction about a week ago. These people ran down to the Guelph police station yesterday trying to look all innocent (but brought their lawyer just incase) to take some sort of “stand” against “the man” and blah blah blah…
A picture of Julian Ichim, one of the alleged protestors, on the Mercury website is shown holding up the letter they gave to the Drexler’s.
This is where it just gets down right funny. I had to save the picture and then blow it up on my screen to try and read it and i think I can make it out pretty good. Here’s what it says…
“To Whom it May Concern, You are receiving this letter because you are somehow implicated in the proposed development of the Hanlon Creek. This also means that you have a say in the future of the project. We are demanding that you discontinue your support of the project. It is in all of our best interest. There has already widespread opposition of this development and there will be much more to come. Signed Friends of the Hanlon Creek.”
Okay listen, if you’re going to take the time to write out that letter (killed a tree), take a bus from Kitchener (spewing evil carbon in the air) and have enough guts to walk up to the home of the contractor to give it to them, maybe you should use the spell check button or get your mom to proof-read it.
“THERE HAS ALREADY WIDESPREAD….” try this friends – how about – There has already BEEN widespread…You might want to throw the word “BEEN” in your alleged “intimidation” letter. OR, stay with me here, you could have said – There IS already widespread….you could have put the word “IS” in there as well.
If these people came to my house and pulled this stunt on my family I would feel intimidated and threatened.
Hey, if you want to try and stop the development at the Hanlon Creek you have every right to do that in a respectful way and thank goodness we live in country that allows you that right. But this tactic is taking it too far in my opinion.
And here’s a bit of info on our Kitchener protestor:
In 2006, he ran as the candidate for:

Julian Ichim is active with the Kitchener Waterloo Youth Collective, he achieved national notoriety in the 2000 federal election by splashing Canadian Alliance leader Stockwell Day with chocolate milk at a campaign stop in Kitchener. That year he was also arrested for protesting gentrification policies in Kitchener. Locally, he is well known for his involvement in The Spot {which is defunct after their funding was cut by a local Union for suspected drug dealing and violence), a drop-in centre in Kitchener run by youth, and is also involved in the Canadian Network for Cuba and also a member of the Anti Racist Action. Pathetically he received 153 votes, finishing seventh of seven candidates. The winner was Elizabeth Witmer of the Progressive Conservative Party.
Knowing me I probably just spelled something wrong in this post. Oh well. I didn’t get my mom to proof read it either.
